Kind of Blue is a narrative poem and play from Ozzie’s jazz-inspired series, The Real Book, which translates the soul of Miles Davis’s legendary 1959 album into a theatrical experience. Rather than a traditional biography, the piece personifies the music itself; the interactions between a Man and a Woman mirror the melodic dialogue between Davis’s trumpet and John Coltrane’s saxophone. Kind of Blue is the story of a relationship. From first sight meeting, falling in love, to becoming lovers, to betrayal and separation, to reconnection and forgiveness, to marriage and growing old, to watching life’s sunset together. Kind of Blue is a play for lovers.
