How do actors do what they do so believably?
A famous quote defining good acting is “to live truthfully in the imaginary circumstances of the play.” — Sandy Miesner
To begin, however, the actors must first know the truth of themselves. Discover what makes you distinctive as a person.
In this 6 -week class, led by Passage Theatre’s June Ballinger, the actors will be guided into the authenticity of themselves and away from a premature idea of “character.” The character, when finally unmasked, will be a unique blend of the actor’s personal truth and the circumstances provided by the text .
We will work with monologues from both plays and screenplays chosen by the teacher for each student.
The class will be small (no more than 8 ) and a brief interview is required. This validating class is fun, and encourages compassion and understanding of yourself and those you will be working with. Students of varying levels are encouraged to sign up. You can be a curious beginner or a more experienced performer.
